Boiler leaking water: keep clear and get advice

Water leaking from or beneath a boiler? Keep clear of wet electrical parts, do not remove the case, and arrange qualified assessment of the source.

Call for urgent help. WhatsApp replies may not be immediate. We’ll confirm attendance and charges.

Water beneath a boiler may come from the appliance, nearby pipework or another connection. Do not remove the casing or touch wet components to establish which one.

Water leak or suspected gas escape?

A water puddle is not the same as a gas emergency. If you smell gas or suspect a gas escape, call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 and follow their instructions. Do not wait for a plumbing appointment.

If anyone is in immediate danger, leave the unsafe area and contact emergency services.

Avoid electrical contact

Do not touch wet switches, plugs or the boiler’s electrical connections. Use normal controls only when they are safe and dry to reach. If you cannot safely isolate equipment, get professional advice rather than attempting it.

Keep people away from hot discharge or steam. Do not plug an outlet to stop water appearing outside.

What to tell the person taking the call

Describe where you can see water from a safe position, whether it is still flowing and whether heating or hot water has stopped. A visible display code and make/model can help arrange the right engineer.

Mention whether nearby pipework is wet and whether another room is affected. You do not need to identify a faulty valve or internal component before asking for help.

What a plumbing call-out can and cannot promise

Call 07469 896305 to discuss the fault and suitable attendance. Gas work must be carried out by an appropriately Gas Safe registered engineer; confirm their registration and appliance categories.

The water source, access and parts determine whether it is repairable during the visit. See hot-water emergencies for scope and call-out costs for what to agree. Do not continue using a leaking appliance simply because it still produces heat.
