A rising bowl and an overflowing cistern are different faults

A toilet bowl that rises when flushed can indicate an obstruction in the waste route. Water spilling from the cistern, or constantly running into the pan, can point to a supply or filling problem. Tell us which part is affected so the visit can be planned appropriately.

Stop flushing if the water is rising

Repeated flushing can cause an overflow. Keep children and pets away from contaminated water. Do not add chemical cleaners or mix products; if anything has already been used, tell the plumber. Read what to do with an overflowing toilet for practical first steps.

When it is especially urgent

Mention if this is the property’s only toilet, if sewage is escaping or if several fixtures are backing up. A problem affecting a toilet and several drains may be further along the drainage system than the pan itself.

What to discuss when booking

Describe the blockage, leaks at the base, a constantly filling cistern or a failed flush. Access to concealed cisterns and replacement parts can affect the work. External drainage faults may require specialist equipment or a different attendance arrangement; CCTV surveys and drain jetting are not assumed to be included. See emergency bathroom repairs for other failed bathroom fittings, or water leak repair for escaping clean water. We cover Sittingbourne and the Medway area, subject to availability.

Emergency plumbing FAQs

For advice about your particular fault, call 07469 896305.

Should I keep flushing to clear a blockage?

No. If the water level is rising or not draining, stop flushing to avoid an overflow. Keep clear of contaminated water and explain the symptoms when calling.

Do all toilet blockages need drain jetting?

No. The cause and location need assessing first. A fault in the toilet or its immediate waste pipe is different from an external drainage obstruction. Specialist drainage equipment is not automatically included in a plumbing call-out.
